March 2011 Newsletter

SCRIP Program:  Plan your spring break with SCRIP. Rent a car with Avis Car Rental and make memories with your family at Six Flags.  Stay at Comfort Inn or Marriott and have a delicious meal at Chili's or treat your spouse to a relaxing cruise on Carnival Cruise Lines. There are many ways to spend a week or the summer with your family. For more great ideas go to www.glscrip.com, click on "order scrip," and then "planning your get away".  The next order dates will be March 1st and 15th.  Orders need to be in the school office by 9 AM.  Checks can be made out to SMCS.  If you have any questions or need a different order date, contact Jennifer Stimac at 913-287-8235 or cnjs317@att.net.

Sports Awards/Pie Social:  Thursday, March 3rd, at 6:30 PM there will be a Pie Social and the sports awards.  Join us for pie and fellowship as we recognize our basketball players and coaches.  A slice of pie and a drink are $2, and an extra slice of pie is just $1. 

End of 3rd Quarter:  Friday, March 4th, is the end of the 3rd Quarter.   

SAT Testing:  During the week of March 7-10, we will be conducting the Stanford Achievement Test for Kindergarten through 12th grade.  It is very important that your child arrive at school on time prepared to do their best on these tests.  A good night’s sleep and a nutritious breakfast have been shown to improve student focus (adults tooJ). 

Science Fair:  On Friday, March 11th, in the afternoon there will be a Science Fair in the gym.  You are invited to come see the projects that the students have been working on.

Missions Conference:  On March 12-13, Olivet Baptist Church will be having their annual Missions Conference.  This year’s theme is “To God Be the Glory Then and Now.”  It will feature missionaries who have served throughout the church’s history.  On Saturday, there will be games from 3:30-5:30 PM.  Then at 5:30 PM, we will have a meal of hamburgers and hotdogs.  On Sunday, we will have a potluck meal after the morning service.   You are invited to come, talk with the missionaries, and rejoice with us in the work that God has done, and continues to do around the world.

Kindergarten Round Up:  On Tuesday, March 15th, from 10 AM to 11:30 AM, we will be having a Kindergarten Round Up.  This is a time for prospective kindergarteners and their parents to meet Mrs. Childs, see the classroom, and get information about our Kindergarten class.  If you know of anyone who would like to come, please have them RSVP by calling the school office at 913-384-4434.

Wednesday Breakfast:  March 16th, the Seniors are offering a breakfast from 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM.  More details will follow.

Jr/Sr High MAACS Fine Arts:  March 17-18 is the MAACS Fine Arts Competition for the Jr. and Sr. High.  Please be sure that those who have projects to finish or items to memorize are prepared.

Maranatha Chamber Singers:  Tuesday, March 22nd, the Maranatha Chamber Singers will be doing our Jr. and Sr. High chapel at noon in the auditorium.  You are invited to come and listen to their ministry in song. 

Meal Before Church:   Wednesday, March 23rd, the Seniors are offering a meal before church from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.  Details will follow.

Casual Thursday:  Thursday, March 24th, is Casual Day.  If they pay $1, students may dress casual.  They should pay in class that morning.  Please NO shorts, sweat pants, or tank tops.

Elementary MAACS Fine Arts:  On Friday, March 25th, the 4th-6th grade will be participating in the MAACS Fine Art Competition.  You should receive details about that day from your child’s teacher.

NO SCHOOL:  March 28th-April 3rd is Spring Break.  Enjoy the beautiful weather!

Promotional Dinner/Live and Silent Auction:  Heads up!  The Promotional Dinner and Silent/Live Auction are coming on Saturday, April 9th.  The theme is Candy Land, and it is going to be a GREAT night.  Make plans now to come and invite others to come, too.  There will be a Jr. High Drama, door prizes, great items to bid on, and an opportunity to help out the school, too!  Tickets for the Promotional Dinner ($10) are on sale in the office.

Auction Sneak PeakJust a “teaser” for the live and silent auction.  In the live auction, we have 4-1 day passes to Disney World, a Branson trip, 1,400 pounds of Limousine beef, and a 46” Samsung flat screen television.  In the silent auction, we have passes to the Omaha Zoo, Kansas City Zoo, and Kansas City Symphony; as well as Kansas City Royals tickets and numerous baskets put together by our students (just to name a few).  Make sure you start saving and planning for this great night. 

Campbell’s Labels, Box Tops for Education, and Best Choice Labels:  Please save and bring these labels in.  They provide cash and equipment for our school.

Trash bags: We have trash bags for sale in the school office. 16-(Blue) 55 gallon, super size bags, 25-(Yellow) 39 gallon, large refuse bags, and 65-(White) 15 gallon, tall kitchen bags for $10.00 each.
