Our History and Legacy of Faithful Visionary Leadership
Pastor Floyd Davis, of Olivet Baptist Church, had dreamed of starting a Christian School, and in 1973 a preschool was started, called Olivet Academy and directed by Susan Wolff. Preschool teachers included Sharon Smith, Sandy Stone, Ester Rios, Mrs. Wickler, Doris McCleary, and cook, Willie Mae Williams. In 1975, OBA expanded to include Kindergarten through 5th grade. Mr. Kramer was the first administrator, and there were approximately 35 students. A new grade was added every year until 1983, when the first class graduated with 7 seniors, Kimberly Hannah, Jeff Jonasec, Anita McHenry, Lisa McLenon, Susan Owens, Kevin Stone, and Merrill Yoder. For their senior trip they went to Eureka Springs and Branson with Mr. and Mrs. Tebbenkamp. The first yearbook was also published that year, and pictures have been taken from it and subsequent books for this history.
John Carver
The SMCS name was chosen in 1978, and the mascot was a “warrior”. The school colors were red and black. In the fall of 1981, John Carver became the second administrator, as well as a teacher in the school. At that point God had blessed the school with about 150 students. Early teachers included Mr. and Mrs. Kramer, Max and Nola Tucker, Miss Lily, Miss Miltonburger, Bev Wolff, Rick Capps, Sandy Settle, Judy Logan, Deb Epperson, John Reynolds, Jan Durham, Sandy Tebbenkamp, Sharon Shepherd, Harriet Skea, Kevin Skea, Lynnette Fox, Carolyn Cox, Cindy Leaf, Maria Berry, Gary Helmers, Keith and Tami Doerr, Lenny Proch, and Roxie Guess. There were many families who strongly supported Christian education and sent their children to the school: Stones, Yoders, Hemphills, Williams, Lopez, Pearsons, Harpers, Halls, Rios, Eddys and Maxwells. These families, and many others, helped to form a strong foundation for SMCS.
George Buckley
George Buckley was the third administrator. During his administration Lenny Proch joined the high school staff. He served many years in the high school and as a coach, and later became an important part of the MOCS administration. Peter Bourdess also joined the staff under Buckley, teaching as the history and art teacher. Over the years, many students have been encouraged to hone their art skills and have won awards, both in the state and nationally at the Fine Arts Competition. Recently, he also began a robotics team, which has also done quite well in the state competitions. He and his wife, Anna, are still teaching at SMCS.
Interestingly, Alan Dicks was a student at Calvary Bible College and did his student teaching under Sandy Stone, a previous teacher at SMCS. He later became the fourth administrator.
It was during Mr. Dicks’s administration that several things happened. Marlena Frazier-Zink was hired as the 5/6th grade teacher. She taught several years before pursuing other avenues of teaching, but eventually ended up back at SMCS, where she is currently the administrator.

Bruce Anderson
In 1991 Bruce Anderson became the pastor of Olivet Baptist Church. Since then, he has been a strong supporter of SMCS, so much so that he currently teaches in the school during his “retirement” years.
We are thankful for the godly heritage God has graciously and faithfully given us over these 50 years. We continue to pray for blessing and wisdom from God as we look to the years ahead.
